| Credentials
I earned my Masters of Education degree in counseling at the University of Mississippi and am nationally certified (NCC). I am licensed as a professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Mississippi as well as credentialed as a Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor (RPT-S) by the Association for Play Therapy. I am also a registered pharmacist (R.Ph.) licensed in the states of Mississippi and Arkansas. I am a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Mississippi Counseling Association (MCA), the Association for Play Therapy (APT), and the Mississippi Association for Play Therapy (MSAPT).
Experience and Theory
My experience has focused on play therapy and alcohol and drug related issues. I have worked for 5 years and 4 months utilizing play therapy skills. During this time I have spent 4 years training and supervising play therapist. I also worked for 3 years and 6 months in the area of substance abuse/dependence treatment. My theoretical orientation is integrative including person-centered, Adlerian, and cognitive-behavioral theories. Within play therapy, I primarily operate from a non-directive standpoint.
Supervision Training
I was trained in clinical supervision as a part of the course work in the Doctorate program in Counselor Education at the University of Mississippi. I completed two 3-semester hour courses, which included basic and advanced supervision skills. During these classes, I engaged in the supervision of Master level, graduate student counselors enrolled in the Counselor Education program. In this roll I functioned either as their university supervisor, or, if on-site, as their site supervisor at OPPTI Counseling Center and/or the University of Mississippi’s Student Counseling Center. While training as a supervisor, I engaged in routine, weekly supervision-of-supervision with a faculty member of the Counselor Education program at the University of Mississippi. This supervision-of-supervision continued for 4 years until I received my Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor credential in January 2007. I am currently completing the application for Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) status as credentialed by The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE). |
